Fearless in the Face of Opposition

Ephesians 6:19–20 “Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” After urging believers to pray for all the Lord’s people, Paul asks them to pray for him. The apostle Paul—a seasoned missionary, church planter, and theologian—doesn’t ask for comfort, release, or protection. He asks for words. He asks for boldness. He asks for prayer so that he may proclaim the gospel faithfully. Here we see the heart of a true minister—deeply aware of his dependence on God. Paul knows that clarity in preaching isn’t self-generated. Courage in opposition isn’t manufactured by personality. Faithfulness in suffering isn’t sustained by human strength. Ministry requires divine supply. He calls himself an “ambassador in chains.” Even imprisoned, he sees himself as representing Christ. Circumstances do not cancel calling. Yet chains bring pressure—and pressure reveals dependence. Every faithful Christian knows this tension. The weight of proclaiming truth. The challenge of spiritual opposition. The cost of following Christ. The temptation toward discouragement. This is why prayer is essential. Preaching requires God-given words. Boldness requires Spirit-given courage. Endurance requires heaven-supplied strength. Paul doesn’t rely on reputation or gifting. He relies on God—and on the prayers of God’s people. And that dependence remains true today. Those who proclaim the gospel stand not in their own ability, but in continual reliance upon the Lord. Prayer: Father, strengthen those who preach and teach Your Word. Grant them clarity of speech, courage of heart, and steadfast endurance in every challenge. Guard them from discouragement and supply them with Your Spirit’s power. May every Christian proclaim the gospel faithfully and fearlessly for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Have a wonderful day. God bless and lots’a love, Warren
