By Staff Writer Staff of the Frankie Supermarket – Vaitele are still at work despite the Monday afternoon house fire that closed it down. More than 70 staff members are helping out with the cleanup at the fire-damaged building while others are re-assigned to other locations of the supermarket chain. “We still have all our staff from Vaitele working, none have been let go”, a company senior spokesperson assured. The cause of the fire remains to determined but the sprawling one store-building’s basic structure is still standing. “We are not yet aware of how the fire started but it’s quite thankful that no life was lost or any serious injuries to anyone,” Chief Fire Officer, Tanuvasa Mr. Petone Mauga confirmed. “It is our first major fire of the year starting up 2026 and am grateful it was brought under control quickly.” Part of the building housed other tenants running private commercial services for the shopping public to take advantage of. The large open parking space in front and on the side of the building, turned the location into a parking area that included a taxi service. The open front space attracted a host of small food vendors along the roadside as well as other business ventures, giving the whole area a general open market environment.
