Ministry of Health Appeals for Urgent Blood Donations at National Hospital at Motootua

The Ministry of Health is appealing to all members of the public who are able to donate blood for critical patients in need at the National Hospital at Motootua. Miss Samoa Iliganoa Feagaimaalii Soti Mapu posted a video on social media urging the public for blood donation. “There is an urgent call for blood donations at the main hospital at Motootua,” she said. “The blood bank has gone empty and so this is a callout for anybody who is healthy able and eligible.” She urges all various organisations to support and save a life by donating blood. “Calling out youth groups, autalavou and anyone who is healthy and organisations, sport group to come together and really support our communities, this donation can really save a life and its not something that we should tale lightly and that there are no blood in the blood bank. “This would be really great for our leaders to come together as well and have an initiative where people are somewhat contributing to our hospital blood bank.” In an interview with TV1 Samoa representative of the Samoa Red Cross Society, Alex Leung Choi, confirmed that all blood types—A, B, AB, and O—are urgently needed. “O le manaomiaga lae iai i le taimi lenei o soo se ituaiga toto , A,B,O ma le AB o loo manaomia lava toto eseese ia talu ai o gasegase uma o loo faataotolia i le falemai e eseese uma ituaiga toto ma o le mafuaaga foi lea o loo tatalo mai ai le Matagaluega o le Soifua Maloloina aemaise foi o le Koluse Mumu i le mamalu o le atunuu e mafai ona agai atu e foai o latou toto.” You can donate a blood at the Clinical Laboratory (Old Paediatric Ward behind the NKF Building) The Laboratory will open from 9am to 4pm.
