No Compromise: Preserving the Gospel of Grace

Galatians 2:5–6 “We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you. As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favouritism—they added nothing to my message.” Paul reveals why he refused to compromise. When false teachers attempted to impose their demands, Paul and the other apostles “did not give in... for a moment.” The issue wasn’t minor. The integrity of the gospel was at stake. If Paul had yielded—even slightly—the message of grace would have been diluted. Human requirements would have clouded the truth that salvation comes through Christ alone. So he stood firm. And he did so not out of stubbornness, but out of love for the church. He says the gospel was preserved “for you.” Protecting the truth ensured that future believers would hear the same pure message of grace. Paul also addresses another potential pressure: reputation. Some leaders in Jerusalem were highly respected, yet Paul makes it clear that status doesn’t determine truth. “God does not show favouritism.” AUTHORITY IN THE CHURCH MUST ALWAYS SUBMIT TO THE AUTHORITY OF THE GOSPEL. The truth of the gospel must never be adjusted to please people, protect reputations, or maintain appearances. Grace must remain grace. Standing firm in the truth protects the freedom of those who come after us. Prayer: Father, give us courage to stand firmly in the truth of the gospel. Guard us from compromising Your Word for the sake of approval or reputation. Help us preserve the message of grace so that others may hear and believe the good news of Christ. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Have a wonderful day. God bless and lots’a love, Warren
