2026-02-18 - 21:57
The National University of Samoa will soon celebrate the official launch of the Diploma VI in Sports Science and the Centre for Sports, Health & Performance Excellence (SHAPE). This landmark event will showcase Samoa’s commitment to strengthening education, health, and sport through accredited qualifications, applied research, and workforce development. The launch will bring together key representatives from across Samoa’s sports industry. The National Sports Federations, the Ministry of Sport and Recreation, elite sport medical professionals, Team Samoa management, and young Samoan athletes will all be present in support of this initiative. Their participation will demonstrate the collective commitment to building a professional, evidence-based sports sector that nurtures talent, strengthens physical education in schools, and prepares Samoa for regional and global opportunities. With strong enrolment already anticipated — including up to 13 students in the first intake of the Diploma VI in Sports Science and more than 36 first-year Bachelor of Education students declaring Health and Physical Education as their teaching major — the launch will highlight the growing desire among young Samoans to pursue careers in sport, fitness, physical education, and health education. This event will represent a united effort across education, government, and the sports community to ensure that Samoa’s athletes, coaches, and educators are supported by structured qualifications, research, and professional pathways.
