P.M. Addresses Oil Supply Preparedness

In a recent meeting with the Cabinet Development Committee, Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt, emphasised the importance of ensuring Samoa’s energy security amid ongoing global conflicts. The discussions centered on strategic plans to bolster the country’s oil and gas supplies, highlighting the need for comprehensive preparedness. The Prime Minister reassured that Samoa is well-prepared to handle potential disruptions in oil and gas availability. Pointing out that the government has secured sufficient supplies from now until June, aiming to prevent any shortages that could impact daily life and economic activities. As part of the strategic plan, officials discussed the necessity of building additional storage tanks to stockpile oil for emergency situations, ensuring the country’s resilience during unforeseen supply disruptions. The committee has formally requested Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (O.P.E.C.) to maintain adequate standby reserves for Samoa. This measure is intended to safeguard the nation against any adverse effects resulting from international conflicts, which could threaten global oil markets. The government’s proactive approach aims to guarantee that citizens will continue to have essential fuels, including gasoline and diesel, without interruption. The P.M. emphasised that these preparations are vital for Samoa’s stability and economic sustainability. The government remains committed to maintaining a secure energy supply and safeguarding the well-being of its people amid uncertain international circumstances.
