Prime Minister Leads by Example in Public Sector Drug Trusting

As the fight against drugs in the country continues, Prime Minister of Samoa, Susuga La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polāta’ivao Fosi Schmidt, led by example this afternoon, by being the first to be tested as part of the Public Service drug testing launched in Apia today. La’aulialemalietoa and other public servants tested at the launch, all tested negative, setting an example for Public Servants across the nation. The drug testing was part of the Public Service Commission’s (PSC) Drug Testing Procedural Guide, outlining the adopted process. Speaking at the lauch, the Prime Minister said the fight against drugs remains a priority of the Government. “There have been more than 200 arrests over the past six months,” said the Prime Minister adding that is just from the past six months since his Government came into power. “We are now faced with a pandemic due to years of taking no action.. ae o lea faatoa fai iai se faatatau..” Laaulialemalietoa said he and the Cabinet will be the first to be tested, adding that Samoa should have taken affirmative action years ago. Walking out of the testing room, Laaulialemalietoa said, “Im clean!” A formal results document issued by SROS confirmed the Prime Minister’s results. The Prime Minister said there are now more than 200 arrests over the past six months, and Samoa Police will not rest until the problem is eradicated from Samoa.
