Samoa Airport Authority Responds to the News Bulletin Published by Samoa Observer

2026-03-24 - 01:53

The Samoa Airport Authority wishes to respond to the news bulletin published online by the Samoa Observer today, 24 March 2026, under the headline: “Airport tax quietly rockets from $180.00 to $280.00” and the statement: “Travelers to and from Samoa were being hit with charges of more than $280 on return tickets after the Government’s new airport levy was applied beyond its stated scope.” The Samoa Airport Authority respectfully advises that this information is incorrect and misleading. Pursuant to the Airport Authority (Fees, Levies and Charges) Amendment Regulation 2026, both the Aerodrome Facility Charge and the Passenger Facility Charge apply only at the point of departure from Samoa. To clarify, where a passenger purchases a return ticket, the applicable charges are imposed only when departing Samoa. These charges are as follows: • Aerodrome Facility Charge: SAT$100.00 • Passenger Facility Charge: SAT$80.00 Accordingly, the total amount charged on departure from Samoa is SAT$180.00, and not SAT$280.00 as reported The Samoa Airport Authority therefore wishes to assure the public that the charges are being applied in accordance with the law and only at the point of departure from Samoa. For any queries or further information, please contact our Office. Ma le fa’ aaloalo tele, Samoa Airport Authority
