The Samoa Institute of Directors (“SIoD”) hosted a Directors Workshop aimed at enhancing understanding and awareness of newly appointed and current Board Directors of Public Bodies (“PB”) on their Compliance Reporting duties in accordance with the Public Bodies (Performance & Accountability) Act 2001. The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including PB Board Directors, senior officials, and regulatory experts, to foster compliance and effective governance. The session was led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry for Public Enterprises, Ms. Tooala Elita, who delivered an insightful presentation on the statutory responsibilities and compliance requirements that govern boards. Attendees were guided through the specific obligations outlined in the Public Bodies (Performance & Accountability) Act 2001, and the Companies Act 2001, including governance standards, transparency, accountability, and policy implementation. Ms. Tooala also highlighted the significance of adhering to these legal frameworks to ensure effective governance and the delivery of public services. Participants engaged in detailed discussions on the legal and ethical obligations, ensuring transparency, accountability, and adherence to policy frameworks. The workshop also covered best practices for monitoring and evaluating board performance to uphold public trust and service delivery standards. This workshop underscores the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening governance and ensuring that Public Bodies operate within the legal and policy frameworks established for their effective functioning.
