Seirosa Wallwork-Lamb has baked over $22,000 tala worth of cookies to raise funds for various charities in Samoa over the years, and for Valentine’s Day this year, she continues her family’s strong tradition of giving back to the community. The 20 year old made donations to SVSG’s Campus of Hope and Mapuifagalele’s Home for the Elderly as part of spreading the love on Valentine’s Day. Seirosa is the daughter of Su’a Hellene Wallwork and Travis Lamb; and the granddaughter of the late humanitarian leader Su’a Julia Wallwork (ADRA) and Samoa’s first Commonwealth Games medalist, the late Seiuli Paul Wallwork OM. Last Friday 13 February Seirosa was accompanied by her Mom during a visit to the SVSG Office in Apia, where she donated $3,000 tala and cookies she had baked for the children of the House of Hope. The best ICT Solutions firm in Samoa and the Pacific. She joined SVSG when she was just 12 years old as a Youth Ambassador while attending high school. Over the years, she has seen how much the organisation supports families, particularly the children at the Campus of Hope. “I have seen the care provided by Mama Lina and her team; for women and children in need.. and I know firsthand about the vital work that they do..” Seirosa says she was blessed to grow up watching her late grandmother, Su’a Julia Wallwork, doing charity work and always giving back to the community. “She is my biggest inspiration and I see so much of her in Mama Lina and her work with survivors of SVSG.. and just in the way that they care for others..” Seirosa shares that she misses her grandmother deeply, and doing charity work helps her feel close to her. “I am both proud and grateful to be continuing her legacy..” Seirosa says Valentine’s Day is not just about couples. “Iit is ‘the day of love‘ – and love should be shared with those who matter to you.. and there are many different ways to express love..” Told that her work is an inspiration to others, and asked what message she’d like to share with Samoa’s youth, Seirosa humbly says she does not see herself as a role model. “I’m just doing what my grandma would have wanted, what my family taught me, and what Mama Lina has shown me about giving back.” For Seirosa, the real inspiration comes from the children and victims at the Campus of Hope. “Despite the hardships they have endured, they continue to show up with smiles on their faces. Their resilience motivates me and reinforces why SVSG’s work is so important.” For victims of abuse, Seirosa encourages them not to stay silent. “As Samoans and as Islanders, we need to stop keeping things hidden and feeling ashamed to speak up..” “Help is always available at SVSG for anyone in need of support or someone to talk to..” Ms Wallwork-Lamb is currently studying Law and Criminology at Auckland University. She had received a Manaaki Scholarship in her first year of University but later chose to study privately so she could pursue two degrees simultaneously.
