THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS Ephesians 6:14 “...with the breastplate of righteousness in place.” THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS guards the heart. It is a piece of spiritual armor designed to protect a believer’s heart, emotions, and character from the enemy’s accusations and spiritual deception. A breastplate protects the vital organs. Without it, a soldier is exposed at his most vulnerable point. Spiritually, righteousness guards the core of who we are. First, this is Christ’s righteousness – given to us by grace. We don’t stand before God on the basis of our own moral performance. We stand covered in the righteousness of Christ. When accusation comes, when shame rises, when the enemy reminds you of past failures, this breastplate protects you. Your standing before God rests in Christ’s finished work. But righteousness isn’t only positional – it’s practical. As we live in obedience, turning from sin and walking in holiness, our lives reflect the righteousness we have received. Ongoing obedience strengthens our defence against spiritual attack. When we neglect holiness, we leave openings. When we pursue righteousness, we guard our hearts. The breastplate reminds us that both justification and sanctification matter. We are declared righteous in Christ – and we are called to live righteously because of Him. Protected by His righteousness and shaped by obedient living, we stand secure. Prayer: Father, thank You for clothing us in the righteousness of Christ. Guard our hearts from accusation and shame. Help us also to walk in practical obedience and holiness. Protect our lives as we pursue righteousness for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Have a wonderful day.
