Twelve Students Awarded Chinese Ambassador Scholarships at NUS

The National University of Samoa (NUS) is pleased to announce the signing of two important Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Samoa, strengthening educational and cultural cooperation between Samoa and China. The ceremony was held at the Embassy coinciding with the celebration of the Lantern Festival. The event opened with remarks from H.E. Mr. Fei Mingxing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Samoa, stating that this occasion marks a new chapter in people-to-people cultural exchange and educational cooperation between the two countries. The keynote address was delivered by the Minister of Education, Honourable Aiono Alec Ekeroma underscoring the high level significance of the ceremony. The MoUs were signed by Ambassador Fei Mingxing and Professor Tuifuisa’a Patila Amosa, Vice-Chancellor of NUS: 1. Chinese Major Scholarship MoU – offering Samoan students’ opportunities to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Chinese at NUS. 2. Chinese Ambassador Scholarship MoU – enabling Samoan students to access full scholarships for study at NUS. Following the MoU signing, NUS proudly celebrated the Awarding Ceremony for the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship, honouring 12 outstanding students for their academic excellence. Ms. Tepatasi Gray, one of the scholarship recipients, delivered the acceptance speech, sharing her gratitude and enthusiasm for the educational journey ahead. Students also shared their reflections on participating in the “China Through My Lens”competition, with Ms. Faye Ailafo Fa’aoso highlighting the importance of cross-cultural learning and mutual understanding. The ceremony concluded with a Hanfu cultural performance, “Little Moon Outside the City”, presented by the Confucius Institute of NUS, adding a vibrant and festive touch to the Lantern Festival celebrations.
