US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau Arrives in Samoa

Sunday 01 March 2026 Apia Samoa. U.S. DEPUTY SECRETARY OF STATE CHRISTOPHER LANDAU ARRIVES IN SAMOA FOR OFFICIAL VISIT. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Mr Christopher Landau, arrived in Samoa this afternoon for an official visit. Landau was welcomed at the Faleolo Airport by Samoa’s Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Toelupe Maoiautele Poumulinuku Onesemo. During his visit, Mr Landau will meet with the Prime Minister of Samoa, Hon. La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polāta’ivao Fosi Schmidt and members of the Government. He will also visit sites where the United States is supporting development initiatives. The visit will conclude with the signing of the Open Sky Treaty and the handover of ballistic vests to the Ministry of Police before his departure on Monday evening. The Deputy Secretary of State is visiting Tonga, Samoa and Fiji after he travelled with Adm. Samuel J. Paparo, commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command to co-host The Pacific Agenda: Investment, Security, and Shared Prosperity Summit at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. At the Summit, the Deputy Secretary met with leaders from the Pacific Islands and U.S. business executives to encourage American investment in the Pacific Islands, according to an official release from the US Department of State. The US Department of State says, during his trip to Samoa, “he will highlight commercial initiatives and reaffirm the strong and enduring ties between the United States and Pacific island nations..” “He will also meet with like-minded partners and allies to coordinate regional investment efforts.” US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau visits Samoa, 01 March 2026.
